FD3 FAQ

SwellPro FD3 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum bait payload of the SwellPro FD3?
The SwellPro FD3 can carry payloads weighing up to 2.0 kg (4.4 lbs). This makes it suitable for large baits, heavy leads and multi-hook fishing rigs when fishing from the beach or shoreline.
Does the FD3 require compass calibration on the beach?
No. The FD3 features a calibration-free system designed to avoid the repeated compass calibration issues that can affect drones on beaches with magnetic sand or mineral interference.
What is the difference between the FD3 Basic and Advanced versions?
The Basic version is designed for straightforward bait delivery and uses a controller with a simpler telemetry display. The Advanced version adds a live-view camera setup and a premium controller with a built-in 5-inch colour screen, making it better suited for positioning, scouting and app-based smart flying.
How many bait drops can I expect from one battery?
The FD3 offers up to 27 minutes of flight time in ideal conditions with no payload. In real-world coastal use with line drag and bait weight, you can typically expect around up to 5 long-distance drops per charge, depending on distance, wind and payload.
Can the FD3 land on water?
Yes. The FD3 has an IP67 waterproof, self-floating airframe, allowing it to land on water when required. It is designed specifically for saltwater and coastal use.
What happens if the FD3 flips over on the water?
If the drone is overturned by waves, the PowerFlip self-righting function can help turn the aircraft back upright, allowing it to take off again from the water surface where conditions allow.
What happens if the drone loses signal or the battery gets too low?
The FD3 includes automatic safety functions such as Return-to-Home, low battery protection and signal loss protection. These are designed to help the drone return towards its recorded take-off point where conditions allow.
Does the FD3 have GPS waypoint flying?
Yes. The FD3 supports app-based waypoint and bait drop planning, allowing anglers to mark fishing locations and use smart flight functions for more repeatable bait delivery.
What maintenance is required after saltwater use?
After every saltwater session, rinse the aircraft, motors and payload release area thoroughly with fresh water. This helps remove salt, sand and debris before they dry onto the drone.
Do I need a licence to fly the FD3 in the UK?
Yes. As the SwellPro FD3 weighs over 250 g, you'll need to comply with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. This usually includes registering as a drone operator and obtaining the appropriate flyer credentials where required. Always maintain visual line of sight unless operating under a suitable authorisation.
Can I buy spare batteries and replacement parts?
Yes. We stock genuine SwellPro accessories and spare parts, including batteries, propellers, chargers, payload release components and replacement parts for the FD3.
